Striping is usually priced per stall for the spaces plus per item for stencils. The single biggest price factor is the type of job:

One thing most owners don't expect: stencils cost nearly the same whether the job is a restripe or a new layout — repainting a handicap symbol is the same labor either way. Lots heavy on symbols and lettering hold their price across job types; lots that are mostly open stalls swing the most.

What drives the price up (or down)
- Job type. The restripe/relayout/new-layout tier is the #1 factor — roughly a 1x / 2x / 3x ladder on the same lot.
- Stencil count. ADA symbols, arrows, lettering, and fire lane markings add up faster than stalls do.
- Custom colors. Each non-standard color adds a setup charge for machine cleanout.
- Indoor work. Warehouse floors need different paint and prep — figure about double outdoor rates.
- Timing. Waiting until lines are gone converts a cheap restripe into a mid-priced relayout. Illinois freeze-thaw cycles and snowplows accelerate this.
- Off-hours scheduling usually costs nothing extra with the right contractor — we stripe nights and weekends at standard rates so lots never close.
DIY vs hiring a striping contractor
A rented walk-behind striper plus paint runs $300–$500 for a weekend, and the results usually show it: wavy lines, wrong stall widths, and ADA layouts that fail inspection. Given that a professional restripe on a typical lot costs $500–$2,000 and comes with straight lines, correct ADA compliance, and insurance, DIY rarely makes sense for a commercial property — the liability risk on ADA alone outweighs the savings.
